Yves Saint Laurent has confirmed that British actress Emily Blunt is to be the new face and ambassadress for its Opium feminine fragrance.

Blunt’s most well-known roles to date are the career-minded secretary in the The Devil Wears Prada, and the queen in the biopic The Young Victoria. Both performances earned her Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. In addition, she won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her TV role playing Natasha in Gideon’s Daughter.

“I am very honoured to have been chosen to be the face of Opium by Yves Saint Laurent,” commented Blunt. “I have huge admiration for the house…and feel it has always truly understood the expression of elegance. It is a really exciting experience to embody this legendary fragrance, which has stood the test of time without its allure ever being diminished. Being a part of this new campaign and being able to tell the story of this very evocative fragrance is a real thrill.”

“Opium is more than a fragrance; it’s a myth that embraces the whole history and values of our house,” noted Renaud de Lesquen, President of YSL & Designer Brands. “Over and above her beauty and elegance, we were impressed by the career and artistic options of Emily. She quite obviously embodies who we feel to be today’s Opium’s woman.”

Blunt will feature in the new TV ad campaign, which breaks this month, in addition to the print and outdoor campaign, shot by Patrick Demarchelier.

According to Nathalie Duran, Deputy General Manager Yves Saint Laurent Parfums, this new campaign features a fiery, almost reckless woman with “magnetic seduction”, which nobody or nothing can resist.

“I had to dye my hair blonde for my next project, and there was a newspaper article saying, ‘She’s gone so LA’. Why, because I’ve gone blonde? There’s plenty of blondes in Australia and England,” Emily told Australia’s Herald Sun, adding that she’s living in L.A. because hubby John Krasinski works on The Office in town.

Emily Blunt has been roped in to star opposite Bruce Willis in a sci-fi thriller Looper.
The film, which also stars actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is a time-travelling adventure that follows the lives of a group of killers, who dispose of people sent from the future, so they can be disposed of without anyone realising who they are.

Emily will be seen playing a single mother.
However, difficulties arise when Joseph‘s alter-ego works out that his latest victim is a future version of himself, and decides to let the man – played by Bruce – escape.

His future self is then forced to track down and kill a young boy, who will be the character’s key to survival.
Producer Rian Johnson plans to begin shooting the complicated sci-fi drama in New Orleans in January next year, with Emily set to play the single mother of the young boy with the key to survival, reports contactmusic.com.

Looper is expected to hit the screens by 2012.

TV, film and theatre stars last night demanded the Tories scrap plans to ditch the UK Film Council.
More than 50 household names including Emily Blunt, James McAvoy and Bill Nighy warned it would not just harm the economy but the “whole British film industry“.
In a joint letter, they wrote that David Cameron‘s decision to axe the council as part of his savage costcutting drive threatened a “British success story“.

They said the expertise of camera crews, lighting experts and set builders was the reason so many top Hollywood directors chose to make films here. And they pointed out the industry made money for Britain, bringing in £5 for every £1 invested. The letter said: “Everyone knows that times are tough. But the UKFC doesn’t waste money, it makes it. Thanks to its efforts, our film industry, worth £4.5billion a year, has rarely been stronger.”

The Government’s plans have provoked outrage, with 42,000 people signing a Facebook petition.
Since the UKFC was established in 2000, British films have laid claim to 23% of box office takings.
It is responsible for some of the most successful UK hits including In the Loop, Bend it Like Beckham and Gosford Park. Last year it received £63.3million income from the Lottery and grant-in-aid.
Axing it would save just £3million a year.

EMILY Blunt feels like she’s emerging from a “food coma” — after having to embark on a drastic diet for her role in upcoming movie The Adjustment Bureau.
The British actress — who recently married longtime beau John Krasinski — had to slim down for her part as a ballet dancer in the film — which also stars Matt Damon, who taunted her with her favorite foods during the shoot.

“After Bourne and Invictus, he (Damon) was like, ‘Just for once, I don’t have to go to the gym, so I’m going to eat burgers in front of you and you’re going to have to deal with it’,” Emily said.

“Last night I had steamed pork buns that made me want to weep. I feel like I’m just emerging from a food coma.
